Sophomore forward Darius Paul, formerly of Western Michigan, will transfer to the University of Illinois, according to ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers. Paul made his decision to transfer in late April.

Paul joins former Ohio head coach John Groce and the Fighting Illini, who finished last season 23-13 overall with an 8-10 record in the Big Ten. The Illini lost to Miami (FL) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Paul won Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honors for the 2012-13 season averaging 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the Broncos.

The Gurnee, IL native will sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Western Michigan returns leading scorer and rebounder Shayne Whittington (13.2 points, 8.8 rebounds per game) to its frontcourt. The loss of Paul leaves the power forward position up for grabs.
