A drug task force that patrols roads in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle now has five full-time officers and two K-9 units – and a growing list of successes.

The Mountaineer Highway Interdiction Team ran "Operation Mayflower" from May 2-May 5, focusing on the east, north and central sections of Wheeling.

Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said Monday that resulted in four felony charges, 18 misdemeanor charges and 64 citations.

Authorities also charged three people with driving under the influence and recovered more than $1,000 worth of drugs, including prescription pills and marijuana.

The task force was created last year to slow the flow of drugs into and through West Virginia. It operates in Ohio, Brooke, Hancock and Marshall counties.
