Rio Grande Women’s Soccer recently signed Laurel Amstutz for the 2013 season.

Amstutz comes to Rio Grande from Xenia high school where she was a four-year letter winner and four-year starter. Amstutz chose Rio Grande over Earlham College, Defiance College, Wilmington College and Centre College.

Amstutz was also a captain for Xenia High School her senior year and played for X Soccer Club. She plays midfield and stands at 5 feet 2 inches.

Last season, Rio Grande struggled with unpredictability, with the majority of its games either defiant wins or large losses. Increased ball control from a young player who is accustomed to varsity level pressure could help the offense and defense maintain more consistency.

Head coach Callum Morris is going on his third season as head coach. Last season Rio Grande was 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the Mid-South Conference.
