UPDATE 3:18 p.m. Thousands of people are without electricity as thunderstorm move away from Southeast Ohio into West Virginia.

The storms are also causing high water and flooding.  Hardest hit are counties in West Virginia.

According to AEP Ohio's outage map the following counties are reporting outages:

According to Appalachian Power's outage map the following counties in West Virginia are reporting outages:

UPDATED 11:16 a.m. Parts of the southeastern Ohio region are once again under a severe thunderstorm watch Thursday morning after a strong complex of storms moved through much of the state overnight.

The watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 10 office is reporting several road closures due to flooding.  State Route (SR) 56 between the Vinton county line and the Athens Corp. is closed.  Route 356 between SR 681 and SR 56.

Other closures include:

SR 681 between SR 356 and US 50

SR 850 between SR 588 and SR 554

SR 143 between SR 7 and SR 684

US 50 between McArthur and Jct SR 356

SR 278 between US 50 and the Hocking County line

UPDATE 8:19 a.m. AEP is reporting that all power has been restored in Athens County.

At one point almost 1,700 residents were without power after a severe thunderstorm hit the area early Thursday morning.

Almost 3,000 residents in Jackson County, however, are still without power.

That's almost 30 percent of the population.

UPDATE 6:00 a.m. The line of severe storms moving through the area has left thousands of customers without power across the region. 

Power is being restored to a number of homes.

More than 1,000 were without power in Athens County as of 6:00 A.M..

UPDATE 3:00 a.m. The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Athens, Morgan, Perry and Washington counties until 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The line of severe storms approaching the area has left 6,322 customers without power in Licking county according to AEP's outage map.

Other counties with power outages include:

Muskingum: 868

Fairfield: 2,254

Coshocton: 220

Belmont: 295

Jefferson: 242


UPDATE 2:38 a.m. At least 4,000 AEP Ohio customers in Licking county are without power early Thursday morning as a line of severe storms moves across the region.

UPDATE 2:07 a.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble and Tuscarawas counties until 3 a.m. Thursday.

A storm complex is moving through the region overnight.

The region is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 6 a.m. Thursday.

The NWS says the main threat is damaging winds and hail.

At least 500 customers in Coshocton county are without power.  In Carroll county 890 customers are without power.  Belmont county has 268 customers without power.


UPDATE 6/13/13 @ 1:05 a.m. A quick-moving storm capable of producing damaging winds will be moving through the region during the overnight hours Thursday.

Meteorologists say wind gusts could reach up to 80 miles per hour.  

"This line of storms is forecast to rapidly dive southeast into Southeast Ohio over the next couple of hours at a speed of 60 miles per hour," reported Kyle Clem, associate director of Scalia Labratory, in the most recent forecast. "The storms are expected to remain severe, with widespread damaging winds possible across all of Southeast Ohio."

UPDATE 11:11 p.m. The NWS has issued a tornado warning for Coshocton, Tuscarawas, Muskingum and Guernsey counties until 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition, Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 12:15 a.m. Thursday

Portions of Southeast Ohio is under a tornado watch until midnight.

UPDATE 10:48 p.m. The NWS has issued a tornado warning for Coshocton, Tuscarawas, Muskingum and Guernsey counties until 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

UPDATE 9:23 p.m. The National Weather Service is issued a tornado warning for Noble and Guernsey counties until 9:45 p.m.

UPDATE 8:52 p.m The National Weather Service has extended a tornado warning for Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties until 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.  

Harrison and Guernsey counties are also under a tornado warning.

UPDATE 7:50 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Coshocton and Tuscarawas counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS advises people move to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy buidling and avoid windows.  The storm is also capable of producing hail the size of 1.75 inches.


The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Central and the Eastern half of Ohio and West Virginia until Midnight Wednesday.

A Watch indicates that conditions are favorable for a tornado to occur.

The NWS has warned that strong storms will make their way through the Upper Midwest and the Ohio valley late Wednesday and early Thursday.

Gusty winds and large hail are to be expected from these storms.
