Region Under A Flash Flood Watch

UPDATE 7:54 a.m. Several counties in the region are without power after heavy rain and storms moved through the area Tuesday.

According to American Electric Power's outage map, 231 customers in Athens County are without power. These include:

Hocking: 610

Marshall, WV: 168

Ohio, WV: 114

UPDATE 10:10 p.m. Hundreds of customers in portions of the region are without power after storms moved through the area.

According to American Electric Power's outage map 231 customers in Athens County are without power.  Other counties with power outages include:

Hocking: 284

Muskingum 210

Franklin: 136

Wayne: 182

Most of the region is under a flash flood watch until Thursday morning.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m. Hundreds of customers are without power due to weather-related outages.

According to American Electric Power's outage map, 588 customers are without power in Franklin County and 316 customers in Licking County.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Licking County until 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The region is under a flash flood watch until Thursday morning.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for various counties throughout the region.

The following counties are under the watch until late Wednesday evening.

In Ohio, Gallia County, Jackson County, Lawrence County and Meigs County should be alert.

Cabell County, Jackson County, Lincoln County, Mason County, Putnam County, Roane County, and Wayne and Wirt counties are under the Flash Flood Watch.

Boyd, Carter, Greenup and Lawrence counties in Kentucky are also advised to take caution as heavy rains continue until Thursday.


UPDATE 1:29 p.m. Motorists are advised to drive with caution as much of the region is quickly becoming under a Flash Flood Watch.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from 8 p.m. this evening until Wednesday night in the following counties: Athens, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, Washington, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Carroll and Tuscarawas.

In West Virginia, Pleasants County, Marshall County, Ohio County and Wood County are also under a Flash Flood Watch until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS says rainfall is expected to continue throughout Wednesday as a cold front crosses the region.


UPDATE 1:00 p.m. The Athens County Emergency Management reports State Route 13 north of Glouster is closed due to the high water. 

No word on when the road will reopen.

Beacon School/ATCO residents who ride bus 14 have been released early due to flooding in the Glouster area.

UPDATE 11:29 a.m.  A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for Athens, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington counties until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pleasants County and Wood County in West Virginia are also under a Flash Flood Watch until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service reports heavy rain overnight caused a strong rise in Sunday Creek.

The NWS reports Sunday Creek will approach bankfull through Glouster, Millfield and Chauncey early this afternoon.

Officials recommend that drivers refrain from roadways covered in water.


Heavy rains have caused concerns in various parts of the region Tuesday.

At least one county has declared a flood emergency as days of rain have left some central Ohio roads under water and impassable.

The Associated Press reports that the emergency management director in Perry County declared the emergency Tuesday morning with high water in the rural villages of Corning and Crooksville. Rail traffic was shut down through Crooksville, too.

The Ohio Emergency Management Association and the Red Cross were helping people displaced by rising water. Some people had to be rescued by boat.

Other counties have been affected by the rain, as well.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood advisory until 11: 15 a.m. Tuesday in Fairfield County, Hocking County, Pickaway County and Ross County, and a flood advisory is in effect in Noble County until 11 a.m.

The NWS has issued a Flash Flood Warning in Morgan County, Perry County and Washington County until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Pleasants County and Wood County in West Virginia are under a Flash Flood Watch until 12 p.m. Tuesday.
