The recruiting trail remains hot for Ohio Football. Two weeks into July the team notched its 11th verbal commitment for the 2014 class from athlete Robbie Walker. Walker announced his decision Sunday on his personal Twitter account.

Walker attends Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C., where he has drawn interest as a game changing all-purpose back, and a return specialist.

Working from the slot and out of the backfield, Walker’s versatility has led scouting services like Rivals.com and Scout.com to list him as an athlete, though he remains unranked by either service.

At 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Walker is a quick and shifty runner.  He has the ability to break a game wide open, thanks in part to a 4.52 40-yard dash time and excellent field vision.

In 2012, Walker’s junior season, he led the Gonzaga Eagles with 926 rushing yards. He also notched 259 receiving yards on 19 catches, and amassed 16 total touchdowns.

The versatile playmaker chose the Bobcats over an offer from Ball State, according to Rivals.com.

He also received interest from several top-tier football programs, such as West Virginia, according to an April article in The Washington Post.

There’s no telling how head coach Frank Solich plans to use the speedy athlete, but Walker and current Ohio speedster Daz’mond Patterson share many similarities, both in size and style of play.

Patterson led the ‘Cats with 582 kickoff return yards in 2012 as a true freshman, and was fourth on the team in rushing.

With Walker likely to join Patterson on kickoff and punt returns in 2014, Ohio is poised to own a dangerous return game.

Of course, with running backs Beau Blankenship and Ryan Boykin set to graduate at the end of the 2013 season, Walker could also wind up seeing consistent time in the backfield as a true freshman in 2014, alongside Patterson.

Like all commitments the Bobcats have received for the 2014 class thus far, Walker’s in non-binding until he signs a National Letter of Intent. The first day members of the 2014 recruiting class can sign is Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.
