Officials Urge Caution Due To Hot Temperatures As They Near 100’s

UPDATE 8:50 a.m.  Temperatures are expected to rise into the low to mid 90's Wednesday and Thursday throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperatures will combine with dew point temperatures into the low 70's. The warm temperatures and muggy conditions will make it feel much warmer than it actually is.

The NWS has issued a heat advisory Wednesday for the following counties:

Ohio

Adams, Athens, Gallia, Meigs, Lawrence, Vinton, Washington, Scioto, Ross, Pike, Pickaway, Perry, Licking, Hocking, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, Tuscarawas, Franklin and Fairfield counties.

West Virginia

Ohio, Marshall, Cabell, Mason, Pleasants, Wayne and Wood counties.

During such temperatures heat strokes, heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses will be possible.


The National Weather Service is advising people to take precautions due to hot and humid weather conditions throughout the week.

The NWS issued a special weather statement regarding the extreme heat. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to upper 90’s.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is also urging people to take precautions. In a release the agency offered the following tips:

• Become familiar with the emergency plans of your community, school and workplace.

• Stay indoors as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun.

• Consider spending the warmest part of the day in public buildings that are air conditioned.

• Eat well-balanced, light, and regular meals.

• Drink plenty of water.

• Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothes.

• Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning.

• Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.

• Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day.

• Know the symptoms of heat-related illnesses and seek medical attention if your conditions are severe
