Five buildings at Ohio University remain closed and nine others are open but you wouldn't be happy working or going to classes there on Wednesday.

An alert issued by the university said that as of 8:30 a.m. the unscheduled outage of the Athens campus West Green Chilled Water Plant continued.

The alert said that while repairs are ongoing, developing mechanical issues with aging equipment and extremely high outside temperatures were impeding progress.

The University said West Green buildings remain closed Wednesday and other buildings across campus were experiencing warmer temperatures than normal.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Athens County from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Additionally, AEP’s power grid is being stressed by high temperatures.

The alert warned that Energy Direct could call for a power demand reduction.

The university was asking faculty staff and students on the Athens campus to conserve power throughout the day.
