An auto mechanic who sold prescription painkillers out of a Huntington shop has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says Vernon Browning, 45, of South Point, Ohio, was sentenced Monday for distribution of oxycodone. He had pleaded guilty in April.

Prosecutors say Browning funded and organized trips to Atlanta to obtain the pills that were later brought back to Huntington and sold at the Little Garage on the Corner automotive shop.

In March 2012, Browning sold pills to an informant working for the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force. A month earlier, law enforcement agents conducted a controlled buy at Browning's Ohio residence. Prosecutors say police also intercepted a shipment of 240 pills from Georgia to Browning's home earlier this year.
