The Rio Grande RedStorm were voted as the second best men’s soccer team in the Mid-South Conference heading into the 2013 season by the coaches in the conference.

The RedStorm trail only NAIA powerhouse Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College in the poll, a team that they defeated in the regular season a year ago, before losing to the same Blue Raiders squad in the conference tournament. The Blue Raiders went on to reach the national semifinals, while the RedStorm bowed out in the second round.

Rio Grande gathered 73 points in the poll, collecting one first place vote.

Coach Scott Morrissey’s squad in Rio Grande has built a program that consistently finds itself among the top teams in not only the MSC, but the entire NAIA as well.

After winning the MSC in 2010 and 2012 (and joining the conference in the 2009-2010 school year), the RedStorm lose their leading goal scorer in Richard Isberner, and goaltender Jack Marchant, but return plenty of experience.

The RedStorm host Saint Xavier (Ill.) University at Evan E. Davis field on Aug. 24 to open the their 2013 campaign.
