Route 33 Reopens After Semi Truck Catches Fire

U.S. Route 33 near County Road 4 near Wayne National Forest headquarters has reopened to traffic after closing in both directions for about an hour after a semi-truck caught fire Monday afternoon.

According to a release from The Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Benjamin T. Davidson, 43, of Cornelius, NC was driving westbound on U.S. 33 when the driver side rear tire blew out.  Investigators say the tire caught fire and engulfed the vehicle and trailer, which was loaded with canned beverages.

The release states that westbound lanes of U.S. 33 were closed for approximately one hour while the Dover/Chauncey Fire Department Extinguished the fire.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly posted a video of the fire on his Facebook page.

No one was injured in the fire. 

The Ohio Environmental protection Agency was called to the scene to assist with the clean-up.
