Marietta Men’s Soccer Falls In Overtime, 2-1

After scoring eight goals in the season opener on Saturday, the Marietta Pioneers only managed to score one in their 2-1 overtime loss to the St. Vincent College Bearcats Sunday in the final game of the Marietta College Classic.

The deciding goal came 2:07 into overtime on an own goal. Both teams had 13 shots in the game, and Marietta had more shots on goal than St. Vincent with seven compared to the Bearcats’ four.

Chris Stollar started in net for Marietta and recorded two saves. His counterpart, Eric Houghton, recorded six saves for St. Vincent.

The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Kevin Proctor scored his second goal of the season in the 13th minute.  Ryan Stephens tied the game in the 38th minute when he scored his second goal of the season on a header.  Miles Alexander recorded an assist on the play.

Marietta (1-1) will play its next game in Wilmington, Ohio, at the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic against the Wittenburg Tigers.
