Campbellsville Defeats Rio In Straight Sets

The Rio Grande RedStorm were swept in their first road game 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 to Mid-South Conference foe, the Campbellsville Tigers.

The RedStorm trailed 9-8 in the first set, but Campbellsville went on an 8-3 run, never looked back and won the set.

The Tigers took an early 16-6 lead in the second set as they went on to win the set by a 10-point margin.

Rio Grande jumped out to an early 10-7 lead in the third set. Then a see-saw battle ensued as the RedStorm held a 21-20 late in the set. But the Tigers proved to be too tough as they took the next five points to win the set and the match.

The RedStorm’s top offensive performers were freshman Autumn Snider and junior Betsy Schramm with seven kills apiece as well as freshman Kayla Briley who recorded 22 asissts. Senior Nicole Ogg led the defensive effort with 13 digs.

Rio Grande (1-3, 0-2) travel to Lindsey Wilson for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Sept. 12.
