The No. 2 ranked Morgantown Mohigans got off to a hot start and did not look back Friday night, as they defeated the Parkersburg South Patriots, 59-0, at the Erickson All Sports Facility.

Morgantown jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when Jamie “Chazzy” Thomas capped off a 56-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run on the Mohigans’ first possession of the game. Thomas racked up 180 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries.

The Parkersburg South offense had trouble moving the ball against a swarming Morgantown defense. Junior running back Brendan Schwendeman struggled for the second straight week after his breakout 407 yard performance in week one. He only managed 49 yards on 17 carries.

Unlike Parkersburg South, Morgantown’s offense had no trouble moving the ball. After a second Thomas touchdown, the Mohigans assembled another scoring drive. The drive was highlighted by two passes from Ethan Goldcamp to West Virginia commit Stone Wolfley, with the second being an 18-yard touchdown pass to put Morgantown up, 20-0.

Goldcamp completed 15-of-17 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns. Wolfley had four receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Following a Patriot punt, the Mohigans went up 27-0 when Thomas broke multiple tackles and stiff-armed a defender on his way to a 78-yard touchdown run.

It looked as though Parkersburg South was going to get on the board late in the first quarter when the Patriots made it down to Morgantown’s 35 yard line. The drive stalled out, though, as the Mohigans stuffed Cody Smith’s run on fourth down.

Morgantown went up 33-0 when Wolfley won the battle for a jump ball in the end zone for a six-yard touchdown catch.

Parkersburg South moved into Morgantown’s territory again on its next possession, but the drive stalled out on fourth down again when Garrett Gilkeson’s pass fell incomplete. Gilkeson finished the night with 113 yards and two interceptions on 11-of-24 passing.

Thomas added another touchdown just before halftime to increase the Mohigans’ lead to 39-0.

Parkersburg South (1-2) travels to Warren (1-2) next week, and Morgantown (3-0) plays Mercersburg Academy (0-2) next week.
