Ohio Volleyball freshman Katie Horton has been named the MAC-East Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 9-16, the conference announced Monday.

Horton, an outside hitter on the Ohio roster, was named MVP of the Western Kentucky Invitational tournament after tallying 31 kills, nine digs and three blocks in three matches, all wins for Ohio.

In the tournament opener against UNLV, Horton started off the weekend with a bang, totaling a career-high 11 kills and hitting a team-high .500 clip.

Horton continued her stellar play with 10 kills against then-No. 21 Western Kentucky, leading the Bobcats to the win and handing the Hilltoppers their first three-set loss at home since 2010.

In the tournament finale against Virginia, Horton hit .409, adding another 10 kills. She also contributed five digs and one block in the five-set win.

Horton hit .382 for the tournament, raising her season average to .323, fourth highest on the team.

For the season, Horton ranks second on the team in kills and kills per set, as well as third in points and second in points per set.

Horton’s contributions this season and this past weekend played a large part in the team’s rise to No. 24 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.

The Bobcats will take the court for another weekend tournament Friday at the Michigan Invitational.
