Riley’s Two Goals Give Marietta Second Straight Win

The Marietta men’s soccer team won its second straight match and third match of the season Saturday when it defeated LaRoche College 4-1.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead on the Redhawks in the 34th minute on a Lucas Eick goal. Eick recorded his third goal of the season on the play, and Todd Sabol notched his second assist this season on the goal.

The game remained 1-0 until Wesley Riley scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Miles Alexander picked up his second assist of the season on Riley’s goal.

Luffey Ryan cut Marietta’s lead to 2-1 in the 54th minute on an unassisted goal. However, Ryan’s goal would be the only one for the Redhawks Saturday.

Marietta added two insurance goals to the seal the victory. One came in the 68th minute when Miles Alexander scored off a Scott Eilmann assist. Then less than two minutes later Riley scored his second goal of the game to increase the Pioneers’ lead to 4-1.

Marietta had 14 shots total, which was four fewer than LaRoche. However, Marietta had a total of seven shots on goal, and LaRoche only had four.

The Pioneers (3-4) will look to continue their strong play against the College of Wooster Fighting Scots (1-4-1) Tuesday.
