The Rio Grande RedStorm (5-10, 1-7) saw its four-game winning streak come to a screeching halt Tuesday as the St. Catharine Patriots won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-22, 26-24.

The RedStorm led early in the first frame, 3-2, but they would not hold another lead for the remainder of the set. They managed to score just nine points the rest of the set. The Patriots cruised to a 25-12 victory.

In the second game, St. Catharine led 11-6 at the midway point, its largest lead of the frame. Rio Grande slowly fought back but it called a timeout when trailing 18-14. After the timeout, the RedStorm went on a 7-1 run to take a two-point lead. However, the Patriots answered with a 6-1 run to take the second game.

The RedStorm and Patriots went run-for-run in the third set until the score was tied 20-20 late in the frame. The teams traded off the next four points to remain tied at 22 all. The set ended with three two-point runs with the Patriots having two of the three runs to take the set and the match.

The RedStorm will try to get back on track when they play Bluefield College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
