Campbellsville University played in grand fashion as they beat Rio Grande 6-0 Saturday night.
Freshmen Hannah Harris and Mhairi Fyfe each scored for the Tigers during the first half. Harris led the way with a goal in the ninth minute to put up the Tigers 1-0. Harris outran the RedStorm’s defense and took a shot outside the 18-yard box while Fyfe found an opening in the 20th minute to extend the Tigers’ lead 2-0.
Senior Toria Alsip added some insurance right before halftime to put Cambellsville up 3-0. The Tigers controlled the game from the outset.
Rio struggled to put the ball in the net and found few openings through out the first half.
In the second half, Campbellsville attacked well and scored three goals. Senior Jessica Ralph scored her first goal in the 52nd minute of the game on an assist from Chelsea Gill. Ralph’s second goal of the game came shortly after on a breakaway, three-on-one attack.
Fyfe got her second goal of the night in the 66th minute ending the RedStorm’s winning streak at two games.
Rio travels to Brescia University Wednesday in an effort to redeem itself in another Mid-South Conference match. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
