UPDATE 4:50 p.m. The lockdown at Meigs County High School has ended, according to a staff member at the high school.

According to a student at the high school a Sheriff’s deputy interrupted band practice around 3:10 p.m. and told all the students to go home. Band practices are held in the parking lot of the high school. Students with cars were released first. Students that didn’t have transportation were sent back into the school.

Regular classes at Meigs High School end at 2:30 p.m.

It is not clear if students without transportation were bused home or had to wait for their parent to pick them up.

A dispatcher at the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office did confirm deputies were at the school but could not release any other information.

A source says the school was placed on lockdown after a parent with students in the Meigs County School system threatened violence.

No one from the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office was immediately available for an interview after several phone calls requesting information.

WOUB News will update this story as more information becomes available.
