Two Republican state lawmakers in Ohio are pushing a series of proposals to make local taxes easier to collect and pay, in an effort to keep and retain businesses.

State Reps. Cheryl Grossman and Mike Henne released details of their latest proposal on municipal income taxes Wednesday.

Changes would include consolidating tax returns to reduce compliance costs and standardizing interest rates and penalties. They also want to establish uniform due dates for all municipal tax returns and uniform withholding requirements for all employers.

The revised bill represents a compromise between business interests and more than 600 local government entities that collect and rely on income from such taxes.

Grossman says Ohio's patchwork of local tax rules and its 300 different local tax forms lead important companies to leave the state.
