Marietta College dropped to eighth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference, as it fell in straight sets to No. 17 Otterbein University 25-18, 25-15 and 25-13.

The Pioneers (12-16, 2-6 OAC) started off strong, leading the Cardinals (24-6, 6-2 OAC), 8-5, at the beginning of the first set. But the Cardinals’ offense took over from there, taking the next seven points and easily outpacing Marietta with 15-7 kills.

The following sets followed a similar pattern, as Otterbein quickly established dominance on offense and only allowed two lead changes in the final two sets.

Sophomore right side hitter and team leader in kills Keri Horton once again led the team offensively, with seven kills, two digs and a .318 kill percentage for seven points.

Junior setter Laura Mauer set the tempo for the Pioneers, with 17 assists, two digs and a solo block, while senior defensive specialist Amber Wiley recorded 11 digs.

Marietta hosts Baldwin Wallace University at 11 a.m. on Saturday, as it attempts to take seventh place in the OAC in the Pioneers’ last game of the season.
