Ohio Finishes Fourth At H2Okie Invitational

The Ohio Swimming and Diving team traveled to Christiansburg, Va., to participate in the H20kie Invitational, its first multiple-day event of the year, and the Bobcats finished the event fourth overall.

Starting on Thursday, Nov. 21, the Bobcats took to the water and finished in fifth place with a score of 131.

Leading the ‘Cats on their first day was diver Haleigh Bartlett as she finished in second place with her one-meter dive with a score of 281.15.

Haley Clark finished the 50-yard freestyle in 23.43 along with Laurin Williams touching the wall in 4:55.81 during the 500-yard freestyle. Both of these performances earned a pair of fourth places for the green and white.

Clark’s performance tied the school’s ninth best time, held before by Lisa MacNicol. 

Friday, Addison Ferguson tore through the water in her main event, the 100-yard backstroke. She took second place with a time of 55.18. Along with her backstroke race was the 100-yard butterfly, where she took eighth place in 56.91.

Clark kept the fast times coming as she finished the 100-yard butterfly with the seventh-fastest time in the school’s history, at 55.46, taking sixth.

Along with the 100-yard butterfly, Clark also participated in the 200-yard medley alongside Tori Bagan and Casey Papp. Their 1:42.93 time would earn them fifth place along with a place in the record books with the fifth fastest time in school-history.

Bartlett also earned another second place with her three-meter dive on Friday as she managed a score of 297.3.

By the end of Day 2, the ‘Cats had secured fourth place overall with a score of 361.

On Saturday, Williams earned the highest place amongst her teammates throughout the duration of the meet. She finished in first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle, with a time of 16:36.24.  

Clark also continued her great performance with a season-best time and seventh place with a finish of 51.40 in the 100-yard freestyle.

The quartet consisting of Clark, Josephine Barker, Papp, and Michelle Gasior finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in seventh place and with a season-best time of 3:28.50.

The final day of the H20kie Invitational concluded with Ohio cementing their place in fourth. The green and white have over a month until they’ll be back in action against the Denison Big Red in Granville, Ohio, at 1 p.m.
