A 15-year-old boy accused of burglarizing a home in Athens was found passed out in a chair there, according to information from the Athens County Sheriff's Office.

It happened Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) after deputies received a complaint from an Athens parent that his 15-year-old son, who is battling a serious drug addiction, ran away from home sometime during the night before.

Deputies went to a home along Nurad Road in Athens and noticed the garage door was open.

Just before then, the boy's family had received a call from him on a phone, which was traced to the home along Nurad Road.

That home's owners were out of town for the holiday.

Deputies discovered the home had been burglarized.

Deputies found a bag of guns outside the door, which were later determined to be air soft guns.

They also discovered the 15-year-old boy passed out in a living room chair with the home's landline off the hook.

A glass pipe used to smoke marijuana and two pills were taken from the chair where the teenager was seated.

A bottle of pills believed to be sleeping pills were scattered on the floor.

Deputies arrested the teenager. Because of his condition, though, he was taken to O’Bleness Hospital for evaluations, and was later, and he was later taken to Children's Hospital in Columbus.

While conducting the walk through, deputies located jewelry boxes lying in the middle of the living room floor with several items of jewelry lying about.

Deputies also found a vehicle parked inside the garage had the driver’s side window broken.

The matter will be turned over to juvenile court.
