Many schools throughout Ohio closed Tuesday morning as the second day of frigid temperatures forced residents to hunker down inside.

Athens City Schools was among the first to make the call the parents Monday night anticipating sub zero temperatures Tuesday morning.

Wind chills in Athens were as low as minus 25 degrees in Athens early Tuesday morning with actual temperatures as low as minus 8.

Those bitterly cold temperatures are thought to have contributed to the death of one person in Athens County.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said the body of Teresa Goode, 45, was found in a trailer park by a passing driver Monday.

Kelly said scrapes on her body indicated she may have fallen and froze.

To help keep people warm, the city of Athens announced it was opening the Athens Community Center on East State Street as a warming station from 6 AM to 9 PM through Wednesday when the worst of the cold-snap is expected to have passed.
