Rio Grande once again used its discipline from the free throw stripe to lift them to victory. The RedStorm were trailing by one point before Travis Elliot was fouled driving to the basket with 3.1 seconds remaining in the game. Elliot knocked down both of his free throws to lift Rio to a 78-77 victory.
The RedStorm extended their winning streak to four games for the first time this season.
With the win, Rio improved its overall record to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Shawnee State fell to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Rio will continue it's three-game home stretch on Jan. 16 as it plays host to St. Catharine College. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
