Ohio Wakes to Even Colder Wednesday Morning

Negative 18 degrees in Athens County, that was the temperature in Albany Wednesday as area residents faced a second day of double-digit subzero temperatures

Most schools in Athens, Jackson, and Vinton counties have another day of cancellations as wind chill advisories and warnings linger throughout much of the shivering state.

More than a thousand electric customers of AEP were in the dark Wednesday morning in Vinton, Pike and Jackson Counties.

The National Weather Service had advisories in effect for much of Ohio until at least late Wednesday morning.

Forecasters said wind chills could register around 20 degrees below zero near daybreak in some places, though temperatures were expected to rise a bit throughout the day.

Officials in Columbus canceled Wednesday classes at the state's largest school district. School officials in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Youngstown and dozens of smaller districts around the state did the same.

The weather has given students from pre-kindergarten to college a break.

Ohio University, Ohio State University, the University of Akron, and  Youngstown State University all canceled Tuesday classes but were expecting to reopen Wednesday.

OU was calling employees back to work at 5:00 AM and students at 10:00 AM when temperatures were expected to rise.
