The Kennedy Museum of Art is offering "Art Encounters," art classes for children ages 5 to 12, on select Saturday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Classes scheduled for spring semester 2014 include Figurative Ceramics on Feb. 1, Serigraph Prints on March 15 and Perspective Drawing on April 5. Fees vary from class to class.

Art Encounters classes are studio art-making activities related to the Museum’s exhibitions and collections and incorporate a discussion of objects on view. Students in the Figurative Ceramics class will have the opportunity to view ceramic pieces in the School of Art +Design Faculty exhibition and then create their own clay figure – human, animal or alien.

The second session will be devoted to painting and embellishing the figure. Students in the Serigraph Prints class will learn the silk-screening technique of printmaking and create their own edition of color prints like those in the Museum’s Print Collection.

Students in the Perspective Drawing class will learn the fundamentals of representing three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional picture plane, as seen in works on view in the Recent Acquisitions exhibition.

Pre-registration is required. Registration forms are available here or call or email Lisa Quinn at 740-593-0953 or
