Down in a 2-0 hole halfway through the game, Ohio’s struggling special teams came to life to give the Bobcats a 3-2 shootout victory against Robert Morris at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Ill. on Saturday night.

Joe Breslin started the comeback with a power play goal with 1:15 remaining in the second period, and then the score was equalized by a shorthanded goal from Matt Hartman with only 5:15 left in regulation.

Eventually, the decision went to the Bobcats in shootout, and the comeback inspired Ohio head coach Jonathon Sheridan to tweet after the game:

Ohio’s “no quit mentality” not only gave them the series sweep of Robert Morris, but also handed the Eagles their second home loss of the season.

Chris Cimoch opened the game’s scoring, giving Robert Morris a 1-0 lead at 13:02 of the first period. It was Cimoch’s team-leading 25th goal of the season, increasing the gap between him and the Eagles’ second highest goal-scorer to seven.

Ryan Heltion started in net for Ohio, as the team’s regular starter Aaron Alkema was still recovering from a head injury sustained in the game before. Heltion stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced, and yielded no goals after surrendering the contest’s second goal to Robert Morris’ Nick Ernst at 11:29 of the second period.

At the other end of the ice, Anthony Petrak stopped 26 Ohio shots in regulation and overtime before allowing the game-winning goal in the shootout.

Ohio will return home for their final four regular season games, as they will start their home stand against Kent State at Bird Arena on Friday, February 7.
