Turnover Woes Sink Marietta

The Capital Crusaders beat the Marietta Pioneers 80-59 inside Ban Johnson Arena Wednesday night to sweep the season series. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 10-12 overall and 4-11 in the OAC.

Marietta came out of the gates cold, as they made only two of their first 14 shots and fell behind 12-4 early in the first half. After going on a 11-3 run, Marietta tied the game at 15 with just above 9:00 to play in the half, but the lead would not last. The Crusaders went on a 15-5 run to take the lead at 30-20 with 4:00 remaining in the half and after a jump shot at the buzzer, Capital went into the locker room with a 42-30 lead.

Turnovers were one of the deciding factors in this game, as Capital forced 16 Pioneer turnovers which resulted in 20 points on the other end. Marietta only capitalized with two points on seven Crusader turnovers.

Capital had five players score in double figures on the evening, including Lauren Stefancin who delivered 16 off the bench. The Crusaders had 18 assists as a team, six of them coming from point guard Cookie Geroski. Marietta was lead by senior Tori Dixon who had 11 points and Heather Booth who had 10 points and six boards.

Marietta has three more conference games against teams that have outscored them by a combined score of 244-189. With senior day set for Saturday at 3 p.m., the Lady Pios look to end their losing streak and send their seniors out with a win that they deserve.
