Junior Chanda Cuckler led the way for the Ohio track and field team at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio. Cuckler had been a force in the long and high jump this winter before the Valentine’s Day matchup, and after the invitational has a school record on her résumé.
Cuckler posted 3,732 points in the event, shattering the previous school record of 3,614 set in 1993 by Donita Barnes. Cuckler’s previous personal best was 3,458 points, which she set at last season’s Youngstown State University Invitational. Cuckler placed third overall in the pentathlon, ahead of student-athletes from Notre Dame, Michigan State and Pittsburgh, among others.
Cuckler wasn’t the only Ohio athlete in action. Donyelle Brown placed a below average 12th in the weight throw, marking 16.94 meters. The Bobcats returned to action Saturday in the SPIRE Invitational.
