The Hocking College Educational Association has something to cheer for after a special trustee meeting.

Thursday, the Hocking College Board of Trustees approved a new agreement with the HCEA Professional Bargaining Unit (PBU).

Mark Yanko, President, HCEA PBU and Computer Science faculty, was especially pleased to come up with a “mutually beneficial contract” in which “each side came to the table prepared to rationally discuss our bargaining items” in a courteous manner.

The new contract will include a pay increase for bargaining unit members who hold a master’s degrees or higher. PBU members with associate or bachelor’s levels of education will also advance one step.

An overall 1.5 percent increase will take effect this year and the salary changes will be retroactive to July 1, 2013.

In addition, Fiscal Year 2015 and 2016 will each include a 3.5 percent raise across the board plus a one-step advancement.

“We are pleased that we have been able to work together to negotiate a compensation package through collaboration …,” Dr. Carl Bridges, Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, said.
