The Gathering Place, a community support program for those with mental illness, will be hosting a community arts residency with Patty Mitchell and Robert Lockheed of Collaborative Art International from March 25 to April 1.
All artists and community members are invited to drop in during the Gathering Place’s operating hours (Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as they develop a giant luminary chandelier to create awareness of mental health wellness in the community.
The Gathering Place is located at 7 North Congress Street, Athens.
Installation of the art collaboration will be at Central Venue, 29 East Carpenter Street, on April 18 and featured during The Gathering Place "Community Illumination" benefit from 6-9 p.m.
Performers will include The Gathering Place Music Ensemble and Voices of Poetry, with special guests Jorma Kaukonen and Laura Nadeau.
