Ohio basketball recruit Tariq Owens has been released from his letter of intent, his father confirmed to WOUB Friday.
Owens, a 6-foot-9 forward, initially committed and signed to play for Ohio and Jim Christian. However, when rumors began swirling of Christian’s move to Boston College, the four-star recruit requested that he be released from his letter of intent.
Owens asked for his release on April 2. It was originally reported that Ohio would not honor his request, though that was likely done so new head coach Saul Phillips could meet Owens before it released him from his letter of intent.
Owens says that as of right now, he is not looking at any schools. However, that will likely change quickly, as the Maryland native received plenty of attention from major programs before his commitment to Ohio.
