The Ohio soccer team announced its schedule for the 2014 season on Monday, with eight nonconference games and 11 games against Mid-American Conference opponents.

The Bobcats’ nonconference schedule includes a tournament at West Lafayette, Ind., where they’ll take on Butler and Purdue, and games against Wright State and Kentucky. Head coach Aaron Rodgers came to Ohio last year after being an assistant coach for the University of Kentucky for four seasons.

“Our pre-conference schedule will really test us as a group and really prepare us for what is always an extremely competitive Mid-American Conference,” Rodgers told OhioBobcats.com.

Ohio went 4-3-2 in nonconference games last season. It opens the season with a home exhibition game against UNC Greensboro, who the Bobcats tied 0-0 in last year’s exhibition.

They finish their nonconference schedule with three home games against Xavier, Eastern Kentucky and Detroit, and then a one-game road trip to Dayton.

Ohio begins its conference schedule with two home contests against Akron (Sept. 26) and Buffalo (Sept. 28). Six of the 11 conference games will be played at home, with notable games coming against rival Miami on Oct. 12 and Kent State on Oct. 30.

Ohio travels to defending MAC champs Western Michigan on Oct. 3, and it takes on Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Oct. 19. The Eagles eliminated Ohio in the first round of the MAC Tournament last season.

If the Bobcats finish in the top eight of the conference, they will participate in the MAC Tournament, which starts on Nov. 2 with the quarterfinals. The winner of the MAC Tournament will advance to the 2014 NCAA Tournament, which starts on Nov. 14.
