A newly released court document accuses the Steubenville schools superintendent of destroying emails and computer data, and lying to investigators about his knowledge of rape allegations involving members of the high school's football team.

Prosecutors in November charged Michael McVey, 51, with felony counts of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice, and misdemeanor counts of falsification and obstructing official business. The Ohio Attorney General's office says in a court document that McVey may have had someone wipe computer hard drives for him.

The document filed in Jefferson County in eastern Ohio accuses McVey of misleading investigators about the school's investigation into the rape allegations and concealing knowledge about rumors of a teenage sex and drinking party four months earlier.

Calls for comment to his attorney Friday were not immediately returned.
