Vinton County Crash Kills 2 From Athens County

The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two Athens County women Monday afternoon.

The patrol reported that the one-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 356 at 4:22 p.m. Monday when Aaron Mans, 44, of Columbus went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Two passengers in the car, Jazmin Sloter, 26, of Nelsonville and Cheri Gifford, 44, of New Marshfield were pronounced dead at the scene by the Vinton County Coroner.

Mans was flown to Cabel-Huntington Hospital with incapacitating injuries by Med Flight helicopter.

State Route 356 was closed for over four hours during the investigation. The Zaleski Fire Department, Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Enforcement, Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit was on scene as well as Vinton County EMS personnel.

No charges have been filed at this time.
