Suspect Identified In Crash At Court Street Bar

Update 10:40 a.m. The identity of a driver involved in a late night Court Street crash has been released. 

According to the report filed by Athens Police, 29-year-old Logan Graber of Sidney, Ohio is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. 

Graber refused an alcohol test at the time he was arrested.

He is charged with operating a moving vehicle while under the influence.

Graber was driving east on West State Street when he struck a parked vehicle.

He then left the scene of the crash and drove south on Court Street, going the wrong way on a one way street.

It was then when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a light post and crashed into The Crystal bar.

Graber then fled the scene on foot down Mill Street where he was later apprehended by police.

Minor injuries were reported. Graber is currently being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in Athens Municipal Court Friday.


UPDATE 1:50 a.m. The official twitter account of a Court Street bar says minor damage was caused by a wrong-way driver.

Administrators behind @TheCrystal_OU released this tweet shortly after the crash Thursday night:

Eyewitnesses tell WOUB's Kaitlyn Marshall a white Ford Mustang was seen driving southbound down the northbound only street. The vehicle then reportedly hit another vehicle before hitting a light post and hitting The Crystal bar, near the intersection of Court and East State Streets.

Patrons inside The Crystal, who wished to remain anonymous, likened the sound of the crash to "an explosion."

Officers at the scene did not immediately release details including the name of the driver or whether they had been taken into custody. Eyewitnesses at the scene say nobody was injured.


Athens Police are investigating a wrong way crash that resulted in damage to a business on Court Street.

Just before midnight Thursday, witnesses say a white Ford Mustang was seen driving southbound down the northbound only street. The vehicle then reportedly hit another vehicle before hitting a light post and running into The Crystal bar, near the intersection of Court and East State Streets.

Patrons inside The Crystal, who wished to remain anonymous, tell WOUB's Kaitlyn Marshall the sound of the crash was similar to, "an explosion."
