A Coolville man has succumbed to injuries sustained in an automobile accident that took place Sunday in Rome Twp.

Steven H. Holter, 57, died Wednesday at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, just a few days after his truck crashed near Route 144.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Holter was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger southbound on Twp. Road 147, just south of Route 144 in Rome Twp., when, at 12:22 a.m., he failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the left side of the road. The truck struck an embankment and rolled onto its top before coming to a rest.

Holter had to be extricated from the truck by mechanical means, commonly referred to as the "jaws of life." He was flown via medical helicopter to Columbus for treatment.

Alcohol is suspected as being a factor in the crash which remains under investigation. Lt. George Harlow, of the Athens Post of the State Highway Patrol said investigators are waiting on the result of blood tests on Holter.
