The Athens Dance Collective and ARTS/West will present an evening of dance and performance art on Saturday, July 12.

The show, which provides a community-oriented opportunity for local dancers, choreographers and performance artists to showcase original work, will feature pieces by Elizabeth Atwell, Chelsea Goettge, Berry Dilley, Missy Whaley, CC Ruchti, Ashley Eastman, Adrienne Covington, Emma Acheson, Rachael Schoonover, Quinn Schmalenberg, Rachel Couch, Darcy Higgins, and Ali Smith.

A spoken word and sound collaboration by Wendy McVicker and Andrew Lampela will also be featured.

The Athens Dance Collective is made up of dancers of all ages from the Athens community. The techniques featured in this performance are grounded in modern dance, improvisational techniques, authentic movement techniques and fusions of movement and spoken word.

Many of the dancers have also been involved with other local groups, such as the Tiny Spaces Dance Company, Steampunk Ballet, and Factory Street Dance Studio, whose mission is to provide non-competitive dance education in Southeast Ohio, promoting dance technique, self-esteem, personal growth and cooperative spirit.

The Athens Dance Collective is funded in part by the Ohio Arts Council, which encourages economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. The group also receives support from the Athens Foundation, the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville and the Kleinpenny Foundation.

Saturday's show is being produced by Ellie Andrews, a choreographer, dancer, Athens native and graduate of the Ohio University School of Dance.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with show time at 7 p.m. Admission is $6 at the door and donations will be welcomed. Email artswestathens@gmail.com for more information.
