A wide variety of groups representing agriculture, business and public health associations are joining forces to tackle a pressing issue: how can they protect and improve Ohio’s water quality?

The coalition known as Healthy Water Ohio will start by conducting a statewide public poll in order to identify major challenges.

Larry Antosh with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation said creating this large initiative will provide a more holistic view of the problem.

“Having that diverse group together to talk about what they’re concerns are and what their future needs might be and the issues that they have really helps us to have more of a comprehensive view on Ohio’s water resources," Antosh said.

A steering committee with Healthy Water Ohio plans to reveal the poll’s results by next summer, along with its recommendations.

The group plans to create a 20 to 30 year management strategy, which may include legislative proposals along the way.
