A man was taken to the hospital after Meigs County authorities responded to a possible drowning at an area state park.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Medical Services responded to Forked Run State Park after report of a possible drowning in the swimming area at about 11:30 a.m. Friday morning.

"It was a male victim," Sheriff Keith Wood said. "(Deputies) went to assist EMS and we actually went into the water to get the person."

Wood said he wasn't aware of what condition the person was in when he was taken from the water, but emergency crews were attempting to resuscitate the man as he was taken to an ambulance. The man was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resource's Division of Parks and Recreation because the incident occurred on state park property.

The Athens Messenger contacted the Division of Parks but details on the investigation could not be obtained as of Friday afternoon.
