Ohio's prisons director says his department and the private vendor that feeds inmates share responsibility for conditions that led to maggots at the women's prison in Marysville.

Director Gary Mohr tells The Columbus Dispatch an inaccessible floor drain containing food debris was probably a breeding ground for maggots found this week during a washing of the kitchen floor at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. It is the ninth time maggots were found in prison kitchen or dining areas this year.

Problems like maggots in food, staffing shortages and reports of running out of food have emerged since Aramark Correctional Services took over prison food service last year.

The company defends its record and says food delays are rare.

The prison employees union has filed a grievance over Aramark's contract.
