After a tough road loss last week against Alexander, one has to wonder how the Federal Hocking Lancers will hold up in the Week 2 matchup against a tough South Gallia Rebels squad. Will the Lancers be able to bounce back and secure their first win of 2014 on their home turf Friday? Or will the Rebels make it two in a row over the Lancers?

It will be a tough matchup for the Lancers, but head coach Craig Moore looks at their game and the rest of the season with optimism.

“It’s always important to have a solid defensive game,” Moore said. “But the score doesn’t tell the story of how well our defense played last week.”

South Gallia (1-0) enters the meeting with the odds in their favor, coming off of a 36-point victory over Sciotoville last week, and also beat the Lancers 57-34 in 2013. The Rebels finished 6-4 overall in 2013,

“This is going to be a tougher game,” Moore said. “South Gallia has a few hard-nosed runners so we really have to be the tougher team. The tougher and more disciplined team is going to come away with this one.”

The Lancers (0-1) will rely on quarterback AJ Cobb again to carry the offense against the Rebels. Last week, the quarterback threw for 111 yards and added another 28 yards on the ground.

But Moore stressed the importance of team play rather than just individual performance.

“We focus on having a team sport attitude,” Moore said. “We care more about the team as whole rather than any certain player.”

With the team mentality in mind, Moore acknowledges the talent in the South Gallia squad.

“We have to win battle up front and put some points up on the board and take the heat off of our defense,” Moore said. “Our lack of offense hurt us last week.”

Kickoff between the Lancers and Rebels is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
