Gallia Academy headed into Week 2 hoping to bounce back from an ugly 52-0 loss to Athens last week. They bounced back in big way, as the Blue Devils shutout the Chesapeake Panthers at home on Friday by a score of 30-0.

Blue Devils quarterback Blake Wilson led the offense in the game, attacking the Chesapeake defense on the ground more than through the air, including a three-yard rushing touchdown late in the second half. Gallia running back Eli Miller also ran all over the Panthers’ defense, highlighted by a 62-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Late in the fourth quarter, Wilson finally beat the Panthers defense through the air, completing an impressive 52-yard pass to Miller who ran it in for a touchdown. Overall it was a solid offensive performance for the Blue Devils, who were missing Wes Jarrell as he sat out because of an injury he suffered against Athens last week.

The Panthers did not have as much luck on offense in the game—especially in the run game—as the Blue Devils’ defense won the battle in the trenches from the start. At one point the Blue Devils recorded three-straight sacks in the second half.

The Panthers’ defense had its moments, as they forced the Blue Devils to three fourth downs in the first quarter. However, two out of three times though, Gallia converted for a first down, and the third time the Blue Devils kicked a field goal.

The most ground Gallia lost was due to mental lapses and penalties, including the five holding penalties called against the Blue Devils just in the first half.

The Blue Devils will travel to Fairland (0-2) next Friday and the Panthers will host Symmes Valley (1-2). Both games are scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
