Contractor Chosen For Richland Avenue Project

A contractor has been selected for the Richland Avenue Project that has been in planning since 2011.

The City of Athens announced that Shelly and Sands Inc. has been awarded the Richland Avenue project.

The contractors propose to being contruction in early March 2015 and end prior to Ohio University move-in in late August 2015.

In preparation for the project, utility relocation work by Columbia Gas and Frontier Communications will be completed this autumn. AEP and Time Warner Cable will also be relocating and improving overhead lines in the area.

The Richland Avenue project has been in detailed planning since 2011 and has recieved more 2.9 million dollars in federal and state funding.

The project will rehabilitate and improve safety in the section of Richland Avenue between Dairy Lane and Canterbury Drive. The project includes new curbing, sidewalks, bikelanes, pavement and decorative lighting. New waterlines, sewer upgrades, and traffic signal improvements are also planned.
