The Ohio Women’s Golf team notched their first tournament victory since 2004 as they won the Golden Grizzlies invitational on Sunday at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Mich.

Junior Angela Codian led the Bobcats to victory with a second-place overall finish and a two-day total score of 150 (+6). Codian had three birdies in the second round on her way to a 70 (-2), which ties her season-best single-round score.

“We came into the tournament knowing we had the talent to win it,” sophomore Hailey Hrynewich said. “We knew that we just had to focus, play our own game, and trust that our teammates would take care of their own game on the course.”

The Bobcats started day two atop the leaderboard after shooting a combined-team total 315 (+27) in the first round on Saturday. It was the sixth time this season that the Bobcats have shot a combined 315 or under in a single round.

Freshman and Michigan native Lily Pendy continued the great start to her collegiate career with a fourth place finish at +10 overall, after shooting a 77 (+5) in both days. Pendy has now shot a 79 or lower in 9 of her 10 rounds this season.

Hrynewich finished the tournament tied for 17th with teammate Jessica McRae, as they both shot a two-round total 161 (+17). McRae shot a career best 80 (+8) in the second round, which was good enough for her first top-20 finish.

“This win will help us significantly because it gives us the confidence that we can go and win a tournament,” Hrynewich said. “Now that we know we can do it, we can go into our other tournaments with this mindset, play fearless golf and shoot low scores.”

The ladies are back on the links on Oct. 6-7 to compete in the University of Cincinnati Fall Invitational in Maineville, Ohio.
