Artist and Navy veteran Skip Rohde will visit the Ohio University Zanesville campus on Monday, Oct. 13 to share his artwork and discuss experiences from a trip to Afghanistan with the US Department of State in 2011.

During his time in Afghanistan, he often attended large meetings of district leaders as an observer where he would quietly draw the participants in his sketch book.

Rohde’s exhibit, Faces of Afghanistan, breaks away from the stereotypes that have formed in recent years as he depicts the subjects as individuals with basic human desires.

He intended to capture their facial characteristics – the passion, intensity, humanity and stress of living the past 30 years at war.

Rohde’s lecture, sponsored by the Ohio University Zanesville Cultural Committee, will take place at 7 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium at OU Zanesville.

An art reception with refreshments will be held in the Zanesville Campus Library immediately following Rohde’s lecture.

The exhibit will be on display Oct. 13 through Oct. 30 during library hours.

This event and the exhibition are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Whitney Sage at sagew@ohio.edu.
