West Virginia health officials are urging pregnant women to get the flu shot.

Bureau for Public Health commissioner Dr. Letitia Tierney is set to hold a briefing Tuesday in Charleston outlining the importance of moms-to-be to get a flu shot.

According to the state Division of Immunization Services, research shows pregnant mothers have a higher risk for getting the flu due to changes in their immune system during pregnancy.

But officials say only about half of pregnant women in West Virginia get vaccinated against the flu.
