Candidates for the 94th District Statehouse are finishing up last minute campaigning before election night on Tuesday.

Democratic incumbent Debbie Phillips is running for her last term in the statehouse after being in office since 2008. Republican challenger Yolan Dennis is making her first run for office.

Phillips is the current Assistant Minority Leader in the Ohio House. She also went to Ohio University and was then on Athens City Council. While in office, Phillips has focused on education standards and is for common core standards.

At a debate a few weeks ago, Phillips talked about her excitement for another term. "We'll keep fighting for our region and fighting for our kids," she said.

Dennis is a registered nurse from Washington County. Dennis wants to be an advocate for small business owners and also wants to repeal common core.

When asked why she is running for office Dennis answered, "we need honest, capable, passionate people to step up and make decisions for the people in our district."

Results from the race will be posted on woub.org on November 4. Also on election night, watch a special election edition of Newswatch starting at 11.
