Volunteers are busy making preparations for a festive family friendly event. The annual Festival of Trees will premiere at The Bowen House following the Logan Santa Parade on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 6-8:30 p.m.

According to Dani Bell, event coordinator and co-executive director at The Bowen House, various organizations, families, schools and community members will decorate trees that will be on display for the public to view through Dec. 23.

Guests may tour the house following the parade, enjoying the holiday ambiance while casting their vote for their favorite tree. Bell said the entire house will be decorated with trees and festive décor.

There are nearly 25 trees scheduled to be on display, but there is room for more trees if additional community members would like to participate.

The Hocking County Children’s Chorus will be among carolers performing on the lawn on opening night while guests enjoy light snacks and refreshments. Pianist Mary Ann Nelson will perform inside.

There will also be a quilt and gift basket raffle to benefit The Bowen House. The Festival of Trees is free, with donations accepted.

“This year, we have very special sponsored trees, in memory of loved ones,” said Bell. The vision is to have the lawn of The Bowen House lit up with sparkling white lights this holiday season, representing those who have passed. If the sponsor prefers, the memorial tree can be indoors.

“We invite anyone who would like to sponsor a tree in honor of a family member or friend, to contact us to discuss available spots,” she said.

A favorite from year’s past is the Military Tree, which is sponsored by Merl Bell Jr. and Brian and Tiffani (Bell) Mello.

“Anyone who would like to recognize an individual for his or her commitment to service and our country’s freedom, please send or drop off military photos and write-ups no later than Friday, Dec. 5 to be included in the opening,” commented Bell. Photos will, however, be accepted throughout December.

Regular Bowen House hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 2-5 p.m. Staff are looking for volunteers to allow for extended hours during December.

“We want to be able to keep the beauty of the house lit up after dark,” Bell said.
